earth friendly yOga
We have found a new yoga mat supplier who is providing some earth-friendly yoga mats for environmentall conscious yogis!
PER is polymer environmental resin and is fast replacing many yucky PVC yoga mats of old. If you are sick of smelling the sticky plasticky smell from your PVC mat, it's time to do the right thing: switch to PER. PER is also hypoallergenic which means that if you're skin is as sensitive as mine, this is the choice for you.
As usual, I never recommend something I've never tried myself, so I've given the PER mats some trial and I must say that it's a good deal. The mat we are supplied is 5-6mm thick which is more than the usual 3-4mm of yoga mats out there. The mat is dense and springy and the surface is suitably resistant to some amount of hard wearing. I think it is a durable mat. It is also non-toxic, and does not emit any pungent smells. The best thing to know is that when you eventually discard it, the earth is not going to be any worse for it.
Another version (see the beige mat in pictures below) incorporates an organic material, jute, combined with PER so that the face of the mat that you use has a nice natural feel. Yogis with sweaty palms would like this one as the natural fibres ABSORBS moisture and STAYS grippy not slippery. ;-)
